NEW Domestic Violence Legal Services Helpline

LASROC has launched a new Domestic Violence Legal Services Helpline. From April 2019-March 2020, LASROC provided legal assistance and support in more than 1,400 domestic violence cases. Many of those clients initially connected with a LASROC attorney in Family Court. However, due to COVID-19 access to the Courthouse has been altered and the process for applying for orders of protection has changed. Many victims have found themselves without access to an attorney.

In an effort to remedy this situation, LASROC launched a new Domestic Violence Legal Services Helpline. We encourage those seeking an Order of Protection to contact the Domestic Violence Legal Services Helpline to speak to a LASROC Family Law Attorney before filing for an Order of Protection.  The number is 585-204-0199.

We’ve seen the positive impact of physical distancing and staying home in helping to mitigate the impact of coronavirus, yet for those experiencing domestic violence home may not be a safe space. -Kristen Porpora, Director of LASROC’s Family Law Unit

For those experiencing domestic violence, a Family Law attorney is available via call or text Monday through Friday 9 am-4 pm to handle your questions and concerns at 585-204-0199. A LASROC Family Law attorney is available to help:

  • If you need an Order of Protection (also known as a “restraining order”)

  • If your abuser violated an existing Order of Protection

  • If you have an emergency regarding custody or visitation of your child(ren) or child support

Coronavirus has uprooted many aspects of our lives and LASROC recognizes this is an incredibly difficult time for everyone in our community.

With everything going on right now, we want those who may be experiencing domestic violence to know that The Legal Aid Society of Rochester is here to help you with your Family Court matters. -Kristen Porpora, Director of LASROC’s Family Law Unit

In addition to the services provided via the Domestic Violence Legal Services Helpline, LASROC is available to assist with other legal matters including immigration, landlord lockouts, foreclosure prevention, and education.
