COOKIE POLICY

This Cookie Policy explains how The Legal Aid Society of Rochester, N.Y. (“Company,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) uses cookies and similar technologies to recognize you when you visit our website at http://www.lasroc.org. It explains what these technologies are, why we use them, and your rights to control our use of them.

In some cases, cookies may collect personal information.

What are cookies?

Cookies are small data files placed on your computer, mobile phone, or other devices when you visit a website. Websites owners widely use cookies to make their websites work, operate more efficiently, or provide reporting information.

Cookies set by the website owner (in this case, The Legal Aid Society of Rochester, N.Y) are called “first-party cookies.” Cookies set by parties other than the website owner are called “third-party cookies.” Third-party cookies enable websites to provide third-party features (e.g., advertising, interactive content, and analytics). The parties that set these third-party cookies can recognize your computer when it visits certain other websites.

Why do we use cookies?

We use first and third-party cookies for several reasons. None of our cookies are “essential cookies,” so they primarily enable us to track and target user interaction to enhance the experience via our Online Properties. Third parties serve cookies through our Websites for analytics purposes. These cookies are described in more detail below.

How can I control cookies?

You have the right to decide whether to accept or reject cookies. Cookies are usually enabled by default, but you can exercise your cookie rights by setting preferences through whichever application or device you are using to access our Online Properties. If you are concerned for your personal safety, we recommend disabling cookies. Methods of refusing cookies through your web browser vary from browser to browser, so your browser’s help menu can provide more information. We can also assist via email at legalaid@lasroc.org, phone at (585)232-4090, or via post at the address listed below.

The types of first and third-party cookies served through our website and their purposes are described below. We only use analytics and customization-oriented cookies:

What about other tracking technologies, like web beacons?

Cookies are not the only way to recognize or track a website’s visitors. We may use other, similar technologies from time to time, like web beacons (sometimes referred to as “tracking pixels” or “clear gifs”). These tiny graphics files contain a unique identifier enabling us to recognize when someone has visited our website or opened an e-mail including it.

Web beacons allow us, for example, to monitor the traffic patterns of users from one webpage to another, deliver or communicate with cookies, understand where users are coming from, improve site performance, and measure the success of our Services. In many instances, these technologies rely on cookies to function correctly. Thus, declining cookies will impair their functioning.

Do you use Flash Cookies or Local Shared Objects?

Websites may also use so-called “Flash Cookies” (also known as Local Shared Objects or “LSOs”) to, among other things, collect and store information about your use of our services or fraud prevention.

If you do not want Flash Cookies stored on your computer, you can adjust the settings of your Flash player to block the storage of Flash Cookies. Adobe’s Website Storage Settings Panel covers methods of removing existing Flash Cookies, preventing Flash LSOs from being placed on your computer without affirmative consent, and (for Flash Player 8 and later) blocking Flash Cookies that are not being delivered by the operator of the page you are currently browsing.

Please note that setting the Flash Player to restrict or remove acceptance of Flash Cookies may reduce or impede the functionality of some Flash applications.

Do you serve targeted advertising?

While we support several third-party cookies on our website, we do not collect user information to provide relevant advertisements. Any information gathered for that purpose would be via a third-party utilizing visits to our website and others to provide relevant advertisements about goods and services you may be interested in.

However, any targeted advertising due to these cookies or web beacons will not appear on our website. Any information collected through these processes does not enable them or us to identify your name, contact information, or other details that directly identify you.

How often will you update this Cookie Policy?

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect, for example, changes to the cookies we use or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. Please revisit this Cookie Policy periodically to stay informed about our use of cookies and other technologies.

The date at the top of this Cookie Policy indicates when it was last updated.
