Tenant Advocacy Program


Purpose

The purpose of the Tenant Advocacy program is to provide direct representation to tenants facing eviction in Rochester City Court to reduce the threat of immediate homelessness.

What we do

Our attorneys are located in Rochester City Court, Landlord Tenant part, ready to represent tenants who are facing eviction.

We provide legal representation to low income tenants facing eviction in Rochester City Court, and information and referrals to applicants who do not qualify for services.

We provide legal representation, in certain circumstances, to tenants facing an illegal lock-out, a 72 hour notice of eviction, or other housing emergency situations.

Who Qualifies for the Program

  • Tenants who live in the City of Rochester, New York
  • Low to moderate income persons

How to Apply for Services

Rochester City Court Cases

If you have been served with papers to appear in Rochester City Court, go to court on the day listed and check in with the Legal Aid staff. An announcement is usually made at the beginning of court. If necessary, check with the court staff.

Emergency Cases

Call 585.232.4090 to apply.

Applicants must provide financial and other personal information in order for us to determine eligibility. Applicants will be screened over the telephone and may need to come into the office for a personal interview.
